Crunchy, doughy, soft and flavorful filling… burekas are always a good idea!
Here, I filled them with meat and olives because i wanted a salty, briny filling to match our mishte theme of this year: Israeli food (Mishte is the feast we have for the holiday of Purim).
Oh and wait until you try this HONEY GARLIC CREAMY DRESSING that I’ve been working on for months! I tested it probably 15 times!!
Can't wait to serve these at my party!!
1 onion, diced
3 tbsp oil
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb minced beef
1 cup cilantro, chopped
1 cup olives, minced
1/2 tbsp zaatar
1/2 tbsp paprika
1 tsp sumac
Puff pastry
Egg, for egg wash
Sesame or favorite topping
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350F.
Start by heating up a pan at medium high heat. Add oil. Fry diced onion until translucent. Add garlic and saute until fragrant.
Add meat and brake apart roughly. Add cilantro, olives, spices. Keep sautéing until meat is fully broken down and cooked.
Roll out your puff pastry on a clean surface. Cut out squares about 5-6 inches. Fill about 1 tbsp of filling then fold in triangle. Repeat for all.
Put on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush egg wash on each burekas. Sprinkle favorite topping.
Bake for at least 30 minutes or more, until golden.
Honey garlic creamy dressing:
(I triple this recipe)
3 garlic cloves
4 tbsp mayo
2 tsp Dijon
1 lemon, juiced
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tbsp honey
½ tsp black pepper
Combine all ingredients in a mini chopper. Pulse a few times until garlic is blended.
