L'oeuil de Haman

Guila Sandroussy

There were customs that my grandmother used to stick to, that we didn’t even know where they came from. Like this one.

We grew up always seeing “l’oeuil de haman” in our houses around Purim. She would send one per child to every one of her grandchildren. We never really questioned where this custom came from or what it represents. We just went with it. So, in honor of her memory, I am still going to go with it.

L'oeuil de haman

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using your challah dough, take a ball the size of a tennis ball. Roll it in a ball.

  2. Place on a parchment paper and slightly push in the middle to create a dent.

  3. Take a raw egg and spray non stick spray so it doesn’t stick to your bread once cooked. Place in the middle.

  4. Take more dough to create the X sign on top of the egg and stick it to the dough on the sides of the egg.

  5. Using scissors, slightly cut all around.

  6. Leave it to rest covered, then brush egg and sprinkle sesame seeds.

  7. Bake just like you would bake your Challah.

Enjoy,

Guila
