A basic roast recipe that everyone should have in their back pocket.
I served this one first holiday of Pessach and it was a hit!
Hope you make it too🤍
Beautiful roast from @boucheriecharcuterieeden . They have an amazing selection of fresh meats. They are my go-to butcher shop!
1 (4 lb) french roast
2 onions, sliced
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup neutral oil
2 tbsp tomato paste
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup silan
DIRECTIONS:
Start by preheating your oven to 300F.
Take your roast. Using paper towel, soak up all the excess moisture until it’s dry. Mix salt, pepper and garlic together. Rub the roast all over with the spice mix.
Heat a large pan over medium high heat. Add oil. Sear roast on all sides to create a nice browning all around. Set aside in baking dish.
In that same pan, put in your onions and sauté over medium heat. Add tomato paste and water to create a sauce. Pour sauce over roast.
Drizzle silan over it. Place parchment paper straight on roast then cover with foil.
Place in the preheated oven and bake for 6-7 hours. Baste every hour. It is ready when a knife goes through easily.
To slice: refrigerate after cooked. Once cool, cut the net and slice using a sharp knife.
