Chocolate Cake (Ouga Kushit)

Guila Sandroussy

I always say and always will say, I am not a baker. It's not in my comfort zone. If I am going to share a baking recipe, it needs to be a) easy, and b) no fail. And this one is it.

This is entirely my sister in law’s recipe! I knew it was a keeper as soon as I tasted it for the first time!

Cake:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup oil

  • 4 eggs

  • 125 ml whipping cream

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 cup hot chocolate powder (such as nesquik)

  • Non stick spray

Ganache:

  • 125 ml whipping cream

  • 125g good quality chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350 F.

  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer, fitted with a whisk, combine wet cake ingredients with sugar. Mix until combined.

  3. Sift flour, chocolate powder and baking powder to avoid lumps. Mix well with other ingredients.

  4. Spray a 9” round pan (springform or not). You can also do 9x13 for a flatter cake. Pour batter in pan. Bake for 40-45 min or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  5. Prepare your ganache: in a small saucepan heat whipping cream, do not let it boil. Add chocolate and mix until fully melted. Set aside.

  6. When cake comes out of the oven, pour ganache on it then place in the fridge to set for at least a few hours. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top before serving.
