Channukah Snack Board (+BEST Board Tips)

Guila Sandroussy

Hot cocoa bombs. Hot cocoa boards. Are some of the trends you can find all over Instagram right now. Although I wanna try them all, I also like when they spark other ideas and lead to new fun things to create.

The easiest, quickest way impress your guest is by making a board. I have made sooo many of them in the past- snack boards, vegetable grazing boards, meat boards, cheese boards, and even dried fruits and nuts boards. You name it, I probably put it in a board... and they are all the selling point on any buffet.

You can plan them in advance and buy things specifically for it, or you can put it together last minute, grabbing the stuff you have in your pantry (best way to clean it!). You can also make one as a hostess gift or to bring with you to a Chanukah party. It makes the best gift!

The thing is, they are beautiful to look at and since I strongly believe that people “eat with their eyes” first, your guest will be drawn to it much more. It's the same feeling as being served assorted chocolates from a box. Part of the experience is having the thrilling feeling when picking out your snacks from the board!

A few tips when putting together a board:

  1. Think in color. If you want a monochromatic look, stick to the same colors. If not, try not putting 2 items of the same color too close together for visual interest.

  2. Include bowls, mini sauce dippers, utensils. It looks more visually appealing when not everything is directly on the board.

  3. Think texture and shapes. Depending on the look your going for, try to vary the shapes of your items. Example: I could’ve used regular pretzels but I opted for sticks to change up that rounded shape often repeated. I also chose the salted ones because I liked the texture that the salt would bring to the board.

  4. Pick the size of the board depending on the amount of items you need to include on your board. If you are serving a big crowd, you would probably need to make it a little larger.

  5. Stay away from symmetry. We want it to look very random, but still giving thought to where each item should be placed.

  6. Start with filling bowls and then add in your bigger items. Once it is set up, you can go ahead and fill all the gaps arounds with other items.

  7. Do not leave ANY space blank. Filling it up completely gives it a finished and beautiful look.

  8. Most importantly, dont be afraid to play around with it. No boards are alike and that is the beauty of it!

Hope these tips will help you put together your very own board, whether it be one for Channukah, or for some other time!

Chag Sameach everyone,
